While I was out with my husband running errands this Saturday, I stopped by Downtown Edmond mid-Saturday afternoon to witness Mayor Davis unveiling the new “Brotherhood” statue on the Corner of the Post Office on Broadway. There was a nice crowd gathered for the art unveiling and ice cream social. Angela Mia de la Vega created this piece of art and Author Christopher P. Lehman is who wrote the story that inspired the choice of location by Stephanie Carel Executive Director of DEBA – West Edwards Days: African Americans in Territorial Edmond. You can read about it at https://www.okhistory.org/publications/chroniclesok/COO97-2Lehman.pdf

Watching everyone gave me inspiration for this new feature section – because I couldn’t stop smiling watching my community do something really meaningful.

This space will be a reminder in our divisive world that we have more reasons to smile than to fight each other. I have several blogs coming, that will hopefully help remind us all to find that we have more in common than not.

That’s it for my first ARTS blog. The unveiling of this particular art piece was a definite reason to smile. Stop by and check it out!

Have a great week and stop by as we will have a new Around Edmond and Shop Edmond blogs coming up!
