Hi everyone! What a great week it’s been spent with family and friends. The Christmas issue is being printed and will be out around town at the end of next week! Click here or on the cover of the ever festive Arcadian Getaways Meadowlark Barn to check out the digital edition!

I decided to rerun our interview with Vance Gregory from 2013 about his journey over the last 45 years with Edmond Wine Shop. His start came just when the wine industry was establishing itself in our country, and his influence in the industry here in Oklahoma. It’s a great story and one worth running again, full of inspiration for so many up and coming business owners.

This last weekend gave me so much hope for local business owners. After posting Small Business Saturday posts for EA’s advertiser’s, I decided to take a long drive to see how all of you were responding to this concept. What I saw made me so happy, with full locally owned retail stores, shops, book stores and locally owned restaurants. Even though all of you shopped online and at big box stores. All of your money spent in your town stays in your town for projects like the parks & rec department, road repairs and more. And even better, it pays the paychecks of the local employees and the owners, to which they in turn spend locally. So, way to go Edmond, I’m so happy to see all of you show so much love locally in an effort to show the local business owners how much they mean to our community.

I also took a break from social media today, after finishing off Small Business Saturday with hot chocolate and a drive to start checking out metro community and neighborhood lights to post at Instagram and Facebook and to add to the Christmas light list you can view digitally here. This may be my favorite thing I look forward to all year long. Not everyone was ready for an extended holiday light season, so be patient while you’re out looking – more amazing displays will be up the closer Christmas gets! Nichols Hills at Grand is starting to light up and it’s magnificent!

For events and general neighborhood light displays, visit the digital edition here to check the events calendar and check the map! Jill Castilla of Citizen’s Bank of Edmond has made sure to start the holiday cheer each October, at the season finale of Heard on Hurd, by lighting the north and south ends of Broadway up in Downtown Edmond, and her contagious cheer is always appreciated!

Saturday December 1st, the City of Edmond and Edmond Electric will celebrate the start of Christmas at Mitch Park with the Mayor’s Tree Lighting and to award the best Essay in the Mayor’s Essay contest, and to light up Luminance in it’s second year. This display is a walk through display right behind the Edmond Outdoor Ice Rink. Last year they debuted two amazing displays, and this year will add 25 walk through displays. The Edmond Chamber sponsored an amazing walk through ornament that will be perfect for your photos!

The Oklahoman published a great article talking about some of the development hopefully to occur in Downtown Edmond at 2nd Street and Santa Fe in the Edmond Ice building and surrounding area!

The Edmond Chamber is proud to name Stephanie Carel, co-owner of Silver Leaf Gems, our 2018 Prosperity Bank Woman of the Year!

Many know Stephanie for her involvement with the Downtown Edmond Business Association. Since 2007, Stephanie has volunteered her time with DEBA assisting with advertising, streetscape and now as president. She has been the DEBA president for the past three years and will begin her fourth year in 2019. She also serves as chairperson for the Edmond Historical Preservation Trust.
