Local Flavor: 2013 Chacewater Merlot from Edmond Wine Shop
Price approximately- $22
In 1989, a huge forest fire burned an entire ridge of Ponderosa pines in the Sierra Foothills. The Manuel family survived and managed to save their home, but their land was scorched. Afterwards, they consulted agriculture and viticulture experts and determined that a new life as an organic vineyard would be a wonderful way to start fresh and make use of the deep, well-drained soils. The climates also proved an ideal combination of hot days and cool nights.
As a consumer with less than average knowledge of the wine industry, I would personally say the above stated vineyard conditions created a new personal favorite for me. This wine is heavy on the tannin’s, and very pleasant upon opening the bottle, with berry and plum scents immediately evident, and very smooth on the palette.
I would definitely recommend this small batch Northern California Merlot to any of my friends and acquaintances as a terrific gift, or just to unwind on the patio!
