Hi everyone, it’s finally over.  In my 50-something years on this planet, we have finally passed the corner of one of the most contentious elections I have ever seen. As a Democrat, I can heartily say, with great power comes great responsibility.  The responsibility to get things done now lies in the Republican party’s hands.  From the results of the 2024 election, I am looking forward to this group’s promised effort to make life more affordable. Nothing in life is ever black and white, and it’s time for everyone to get together now, and make our communities work for all of us.

I want to promise you that for as long as I am able, and for as long as you all may value my opinion, I will be here. Staying silent is what fascists count on, specifically the Heritage Foundation folks. I won’t be staying silent. A majority of Americans have spoken, and we must accept their choice. But there’s nothing that says everyone has to like it, and that we can’t write about what’s going on. I am just a local resident who felt that there was enough of the bs floating around on both sides, as my reason to have held off being entirely vocal about National politics – full well knowing that none of you read my blog to read more national rhetoric from either side, and not because I am not interested, not informed or afraid of conflict.

The GO Bond issue loss last night simply came down to Edmond residents voting to stave off any further increases to their monthly mortgage payments, and for good reason, after Edmond homes increased property taxes already drastically increased by the sudden extreme increase of property values sending property taxes sky high, along with increases to their monthly mortgage payment that came in the form of unchecked homeowner’s insurance premiums that doubled if not tripled.  As I said about 6 weeks ago, the projects are meritorious, but the timing from City leaders appeared tone-deaf to concerns of local residents.  Mayor Davis has stated that the projects will move forward anyway, so there is that.

Let’s Kick Off The Holidays next Tuesday 11/12 at 5:30 pm in Downtown Edmond with Deck the Downtown!

Downtown Edmond is welcoming Deck the Downtown for its 2nd year.  This family friendly event takes place at the Corner of Broadway and Campbell with a star studded cast of holiday characters including Santa and Mrs. Claus, Reindeer from the North Pole, the Oklahoma Dance Company and a lit up Horse drawn wagon ride.  The star of the show will be the lighting of our 20 foot tree at 6pm.

It also includes live music and Christmas Carols, photo booths for family photos, the Edmond Police and Fire Departments, S’mores, face painting, letters to Santa, cookie decorating, ornament making and much more.  Most of this event is free but we do have a little shopping and hot dogs, coffee bar and pastries for sale from local businesses.

We also encourage the public to bring new toys and non-perishable food for our Hope Center Holiday Drive.
