Hi everyone! Hoping you are all rested after the start of fall sports of all kinds. It’s always a quiet time in Edmond during the Oklahoma State Fair, so if you get a chance, be sure to hit up our local restaurants, they would surely appreciate it very much.

Today it was announced that an Oklahoma Grand Jury has been convened to investigate the GEER funds that went missing while Ryan Walter’s was Secretary of Education and approved of blanket approval of funds dispersed to parents, for any use. The Grand Jury reconvenes during the first week of October.

Oklahoman Story here.

On the national level, it appears that no one was eating cats or dogs in Springfield Ohio as JD Vance admitted Sunday to making this rumor up. So far, 3 elementary schools have had bomb threats including this morning and 1 middle school evacuation, hospitals were evacuated for similar threats, and an apartment building across from one of the threatened elementary schools was set on fire Sunday, and mostly burned to the ground. On top of a crazed individual who allegedly used to be a Donald Trump supporter, who spent 12 hours outside of the chain link fenced Mara Lago golf course with an AK 47 style rifle, go pro and ceramic packed backpacks all zip tied to the fence, who Secret Service Director this afternoon emphatically stated did not shoot at the former President, was shot at causing him to flee. Thankfully no one was injured, and they caught the man an hour later driving his daughter’s car.

If you feel tired, this might account for it.  Can’t ignore this serious set of events, and this bizarre paragraph above in its context, is certainly cause to reiterate we all have more in common than not, and we should be concentrating on being community, not trying to tear it apart.

Edmond too has disagreements about leadership. The great thing, though, is that we come together to have fun as a community, despite our differences!

A.R.T.S. ~ A Reason to Smile

I was mocked this weekend for posting an Instagram photo of the new Starbuck’s on Broadway just nw of 33rd Street. I typically don’t take photos of these changes of businesses, as Dunkin is moving to a new location at 15th & Kelly, but this weekend it moved me as to how many people were hanging out inside and outside of this location at 8:45 pm, uncommon in Edmond.

One of EA’s followers said the new location has the nicest workers and has such a positive vibe that it’s become her favorite spot to grab a coffee and hang out.  If you are a new business owner, this is what you should aspire to, a feel of welcoming and community. It was so noticeable from the street it caused me to turn around and shoot the cover photo to this column.

Lastly, keep your eye out for ballots to nominate your favorites Around Edmond on September 30, 2024. Voting starts November 1, 2024!

Thanks to all of you for reading and following along at Instagram, Facebook & X. As X devolves rapidly, I will be posting more regularly at @EdmondActiveMag at Threads.

Have a wonderful week, whether at the Fair, Heard on Hurd or just hanging out with family & friends, and be sure to stop by next Monday to see what’s happening around Edmond!
