Around Edmond: Visit Edmond seeks to raise the hotel tax to 6% to allow further marketing to visitors of Edmond at tonight’s City Council meeting. Spring is almost ready to spring at local metro parks!
Hi everyone, and welcome back to Around Edmond. If you are new to the area, welcome, and hopefully you’ll follow along each week, and if you would like to know what’s happening around Edmond daily, be sure to follow us at Instagram and Threads at @Edmondactivemag (long story about our unfortunate 2023 lockout of EdmondActive), and at @EdmondActive at Facebook, X and our new TikTok account! As well, we have a group for Edmond Events Around Edmond here!
Tonight, (link to watch live) City Council will vote for a raise in the hotel tax from 4.5% to 6%, after a presentation from Jennifer Thornton the Director of Visit Edmond, the city’s tourism office. This will allow the Visitor’s Bureau to spend more on advertising to Edmond, whether sporting events visitors, new residents, old residents who visit family, current Edmond residents who chose to visit OKC, over staying in Edmond and residents who live in Edmond but are considered OKC residents. They want to show off our restaurants, boutiques, and events in the most positive light possible, and that is fantastic and a good reason to raise this tax, which will also bring our city’s tax collection for this purpose in line with other surrounding communities. The concepts are friendly, and so far, their execution has been superb!
This particular week, the upcoming Spring events are all joyfully being prepared, and a busy spring it will be.
Starting with the spring’s first gallery opening at Edmond Fine Art’s Institute on March 7 from 5 to 7 pm, in Downtown Edmond at 27 E. Edwards St. featuring 8 Oklahoma artists in “XO -The West”
For more events happening in March, check our Events page here!
My husband and I went out to enjoy local parks this weekend, and if you are new, get ready for an amazing display of tulips and daffodils in Edmond, around the week before Easter, at Hafer Park just east of Bryant on 9th Street, at Mitch Park, at Myriad Gardens who are having a Tulip Festival in Downtown OKC, and an outrageous display of daffodils at Scissortail Park by Paycom Center in Downtown OKC.
Hoping all of you had a restful weekend as I did, and be sure to check back to see what’s happening around Edmond this weekend on Thursday!
Just a note to thank all of our sponsors for again supporting EdmondActive this particular year! I am super excited to get our 15th season started in mid July!
Thanks for reading,
