“Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls—step right up to HEAR the sounds of the old-time circus!” Experience the excitement of acrobats and elephants, through a live reenactment of 1940s radio show broadcasts.
Edmond’s 1940s Radio Theater presents: Three-Ring Circus Radio Show on Saturday, February 24th @ 3:30-4:45 pm. The show features comedy, suspense, music and melodrama—themed around the thrill of the circus. The show is hosted in celebration of the museum’s new exhibit “Under the Big Top: Edmond’s Overwintering Circus.”
Details about the Show
Three-Ring Circus Radio Show features a comedy skit from “Our Miss Brooks,” in which a schoolteacher is tasked with finding a mascot for the high school football game by visiting a traveling circus. In an original melodrama of silliness, the ringmaster has been murdered and the big top is filled with circus suspects. And, of course, no circus show is complete without a center-ring performance by a hula hoop performer from the modern-day Inspyral Circus.
The 1940s Radio Theater is a national award-winning performance series hosted by the Edmond History Museum and directed by Barrett Huddleston. The one-hour and fifteen minute show features live local actors reading from historic radio scripts, with the addition of original material. In respect for the changes in modern circus culture, no animals will be present at the show. Music is provided by Chazlen Rook. Popcorn provided.
Tickets to Three-Ring Circus Radio Show are $12 adults, children 10 and under are free. RSVP at https://www.edmondhistory.org/event/13674/ The show will be performed live at the Edmond History Museum, 431 S. Boulevard in Edmond.
Circus Exhibit
The show’s circus theme was selected to compliment the new exhibit: “Under the Big Top: Edmond’s Overwintering Circus.” From 1900 until the 1976, a section along Santa Fe & Kelly in Edmond was home to a circus company. Each winter, animal training and new acts were in progress during the off season. Some Edmondites still remember hearing lions roar in the distance. The exhibit features the circus’ history, including artifacts and photographs.
