The UCO Department of History and Geography, The Women’s Research Center, and the BGLTQ+ Student Center are pleased to announce Gender and Rodeo: An Evening with Elyssa Ford, Ph.D., on Friday, March 29 beginning with a reception at 5 p.m. at The Center in Thatcher Hall Room 106 and public talk at 6 p.m. in the UCO Liberal Arts Building Lecture Hall LAS L01. Dr. Elyssa Ford, associate professor of history and director of public history and museum studies at Northwest Missouri State University, is the author of “Rodeo as Refuge, Rodeo as Rebellion, Gender, Race, and Identity in the American Rodeo” published by the University Press of Kansas in 2020. Dr. Ford will engage in several small group discussions with history, women’s, gender, and sexuality studies, and museum studies students on her scholarship on gender and rodeo culminating in a public talk, “The Impact of AIDS and the Rise of a Culture of Care in Gay Rodeo.”
