Hi everyone, how about the awesome thunder sleet this morning?! If it’s going to be this cold, I sure expected more than the amount of whatever that was to accumulate. One of our followers on Facebook shared a picture of the pea-sized hail she received this morning. Gotta love this part of winter, all or nothing. I know one thing though, our golden/lab/Pyrenees LOVE this weather and neither can understand why they can only spend short amounts of time outside.

This month got started with a bang with State Superintendent of Education Ryan Walter’s attacking the very foundation of public education slashing a raise in teacher pay that had been previously approved by the Board of Education.

Edmond has ponied up though, through legislation proposed by Adam Pugh and Kristen Thompson, that does not include vouchers, and is extremely comprehensive in its approach in an attempt to not only shore up public schools but bring them up to a point where they may thrive. I cannot tell you how refreshing it is to have someone propose something rational, reasonable, and helpful, rather than perpetuate garbage repeatedly. 

City expands spending for new City complex, new eastside YMCA and Library, and renovations to Kickingbird Golf Club

The City of Edmond is in the process of getting ready to build a new city complex, consisting of the Municipal Court, City Offices, and a new parking garage for the amount of 44 million dollars. This will bring all agencies, utilities, and everything under one roof. The project will close down a portion of Littler to allow for a public green space.

This is in addition to our public golf course Kickingbird Golf being entirely refinished, with an entirely new clubhouse, at the cost of 20 million dollars, with the hopes of bringing National level golf tournaments to Edmond. 

There is also another 37.1 million dollar project to build a new East Edmond YMCA at 15th Street and I35, along with a 2nd Edmond Public Library.

Heard on Hurd announces 10th Season

Get excited for the 10th season of Heard on Hurd, a street festival held in Downtown Edmond on Broadway, between 1st and Hurd, held each 3rd Saturday from March 18, 2023, to October 21, 2023, between 6-10 pm!

The festival features food trucks, local retail, and over 24 bands throughout the year, and is a great place to visit with local brick-and-mortar businesses, friends, and family, and it is dog friendly, as well!

The Plaza at Stephenson Park 

Downtown Edmond is growing from north Broadway to south Broadway. The Plaza at Stephenson Park is a new development on 5th Street, by Hideaway Pizza. It will host retailers, office space, and dining spaces and has a lovely patio space. The developer is now leasing, if you should know of anyone interested.
