BrucePac, in conjunction with USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), announced that it is recalling approximately nearly 10,000,000 pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products. The recall was initiated on Oct. 9 after FSIS routine testing found that ready-to-eat poultry products produced by BrucePac tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. Further tests confirmed that the poultry products were the sources of the listeria, however, other ready-to-eat meat products made in the same Durant, Okla. facility are also subject to recall.
The fully-cooked meat and poultry items were produced between June 19, 2024, and Oct. 8, 2024. According to the FSIS, these products were shipped nationwide and distributed to restaurants, grocery stores, and institutions. The original recall includes all products that bear the establishment numbers “51205” or “P-51205” inside or under the USDA mark of inspection.
On Oct. 10, the recall was updated to include an expanded list of products as well as a list of labels for products that are subject to recall. This product list reveals that the retailers of the recalled meat and poultry products include Aldi, Walmart, H-E-B, Trader Joe’s, as well as other grocery stores. The ready-to-eat products were sold under these stores’ private labels as well as under the brand name Fresh Express, and were sold in both the refrigerated and freezer sections.
